I was just reading an article by George Will, who is a very intelligent and rational person. The article was about the problems being caused by the current military rules of engagement developed to prevent collateral damage, AKA civilian deaths and injuries. In it, George noted how the US troops were unnecessarily being put in harms way and being forced to risk their lives to protect the lives of civilians who often supported the terrorists. George referred to several instances in which US troops called for and were denied mortar or artillery support which was very necessary to save the soldiers' lives and help them destroy the enemy. That tactical support was denied because of the stupid rules created by the righteous upper class trash, most of whom have never been in the military much less a battle, designed to prevent "unnecessary civilian deaths". George also pointed out how those same civilians would support the terrorists and laugh at the US casualties after the battle.
Why would they support the terrorists waging war against the US in their communities? Because they know that the US won't shell or bomb their homes to win battles for fear of killing the civilians. The potential for them to become war casualties has been decreased to the point to where it no longer discourages civilians from supporting evil groups who wage war in their communities. We have made war too pretty, nice, and safe for it to discourage people from wanting war in their communities and supporting the evil people who cause those wars.
We were warned of this by military experts decades ago. They told us that, if we made war too safe for the civilians, the civilians would not be discouraged from wanting war and war would become too common and last too long. The brilliant, all knowing, all wise, highly educated, grossly over paid upper class trash knew better and insisted on forcing the military to fight perfect wars in which there would be no civilian deaths, only deaths of the combatants. The intellectually superior upper clash trash was wrong and the military was right. What the military warned us about has happened because our upper class trash insist on our military fighting perfect wars, for which, there really is no such thing.
The truth is, in order to encourage peace, the military must kill at least enough civilians so that the civilians will discourage war. It is only when the civilians lives and homes are at significant risk that the civilians will discourage war. Not only are they not discouraging war, they are freely assisting the combatants with impunity making themselves combatants who can't be fired on. This is insanity and these civilians need to start being considered as combatants by their support of those who do the fighting. The enemy does this and we should also.
The upper class trash, in their intellectual superiority, have caused war to become too safe, risk free, nice, pretty, and less sane and rational than before they imposed their great genius. Once again, the upper class trash, with their intellectual superiority, was wrong and have made things worse. War must remain ugly and destructive or we will find ourselves in a perpetual state of war against monsters who are smart enough to not abide by the pretty boy upper class rules. If the good combatants are only permitted to kill the bad combatants and only when they will not risk killing the civilians with the good combatant's lives being put at unnecessary risk while the bad combatants risk of death is being significantly deminished, then very few people will want to be combatants for the good guys with more people wanting to be combatants for the bad guys making it impossible to fight the bad guys and protect our freedoms and rights. Then the bad guys will win all the battles by default and we will become their slaves.
We MUST keep war ugly to encourage peace and that means that significant numbers of civilians MUST die in war. The only other choice is insanity. The ugly truth is that civilian deaths are necessary in war to help discourage war.
Keep war ugly, call in the artillery when needed!!!
